The correlation between the Hillary Duff's song with Insects and Humans, is that we all go through some form of metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is a complete life cycle from larva to adult for many creatures. Yes, technically by science we Humans, do not go through metamorphosis, like amphibians, and insects go through, but we do have very similar life stages.
The singer in her song was describing puberty, how teenagers are starting their transition to become adults. She goes on how on she and other young adults do not understand the change or know to deal with them. However, the result may be worth the change as stated by this piece of her song “Watching the butterfly go towards the sun, I wonder what I will become Metamorphosis. Whatever this is, whatever I'm going through.”(Lyrics.com) these lines are a great example on how we humans during adolescence, we are probably at our worst, but when we find ourselves we are pretty amazing like the butterfly.
Let's, move away on how symbology but how humans go through metamorphosis. As mentioned there are two types of metamorphosis, hemimetabolous, and Holometabolous. We humans probably go through hemimetabolous, for we do not wrap ourselves in cocoon for weeks and suddenly we look completely different and we are adults. (Snodgrass 1954) We go through a similar phases like grasshopper; we look like our younger selves, and as each stage progresses we reach adulthood. There is one big difference between humans and insects that go through hemimetabolous, and that is molting. Other than that, one can claim that humans also go through hemimetabolous.
